‘Valentine’s Day’ Is Moviegoers’ First Love At Box Office
The Box-Office Top Five
#1 “Valentine’s Day” ($66.9 million)
#2 “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” ($38.8 million)
#3 “The Wolfman” ($36.5 million)
#4 “Avatar” ($30 million)
#5 “Dear John” ($18.8 million)The combined star power of Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts, Jessica Alba, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift and more won over the hearts, minds and wallets of moviegoers everywhere this weekend as “Valentine’s Day” decisively won the holiday-weekend box office.
Director Garry Marshall’s ensemble romantic comedy easily took first place with a final domestic tally of $66.9 million by the end of President’s Day on Monday. The stateside result alone puts Marshall’s latest nearly $17 million ahead of its production budget, providing plenty of non-holiday reasons for the film’s participants to celebrate the victory.
Though it won the box office by a meaningful margin, “Valentine’s Day” was hardly the only fierce competitor in movie theaters this weekend. Director Chris Columbus’ “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” took second place with a $38.8 million domestic haul, proving that there’s plenty of room in the marketplace for adaptations of young adventure novels along the lines of the “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” series. Still, with an estimated budget of $95 million, “Percy” needs to electrify audiences a bit more in the coming weeks in order to amass a significant profit.

‘Valentine’s Day’ feels the box-office love Friday
“Valentine’s Day” got off to a healthy start on its namesake weekend, leading the box-office take on Friday (Feb. 12).
The star-packed romantic comedy rang up a studio-estimated $14.6 million on Friday, starting off the long weekend — Monday is Presidents Day — in first place. That’s a little better than forecasters had predicted and puts the movie in line to make $50 million-plus over the four-day weekend. If it does, that would put it past “50 First Dates” as the No. 1 Valentine’s weekend rom-com of all time.
The weekend’s other big releases, “The Wolfman” and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” also did fairly well on Friday. Despite poor reviews (the same could be said for “Valentine’s Day”), “The Wolfman” took in an estimated $9.8 million to finish just ahead of “Percy Jackson’s” $9.7 million.
“Avatar,” which was finally knocked out of the top box-office spot last weekend, raked in $4.5 million on Friday to put it ahead of the movie that dethroned it, “Dear John” ($4.1 million).

Valentine’s Day star Jessica Biel talks love, blues and junk food
In an interview with Long Island Press, Jessica talks about Valentine’s Day, love, movie roles, papparazzi and much more.
While Jessica Biel gets that her role as determined V-Day party pooper in Garry Marshall’s Valentine’s Day is just fiction, it seems that art on occasion can imitate her own life too. The former Blade girl avenger who doesn’t mind kicking enemy butt though she draws the line at baring her own in a movie, met to divulge what does and does not turn her on when it comes to a holiday that’s all about romance, faking loneliness on screen even though she’s got Justin Timberlake on the sidelines now and then, and how junk food can go a long way towards smoothing over infatuation blues.
Q: This movie is all about Valentine’s Day, LA style. So what do you love about LA? Or do you?
JESSICA BIEL: Hmmm…Real Foods Daily. And the fact that you can go to the mountains and the ocean, with no more than an hour drive.
